The 2^nd annual Cooley Legends (off/road) Half Marathon held this Saturday 23^rd  April, 2011 in Carlingford, Co. Louth. Conditions were perfect, after the recent dry spell and slight southerly wind to cool the participants on their way. It was 2^nd position was the defending local Setanta triathlete, Bryan McCrystal, with Ugis Karasevs taking first position with a new course record of 1:24:40, beating the old record by exactly one minute.

In the ladies race once again, there was no catching the local Setanta triathlete Jolene Mallon with N.Hogan in second position.

This year, there will be a 10k run to coincide with the running of the half marathon. This will follow the last 10k of the half marathon route.

Columbia Cooley Legends !!!

COLUMBIA Cooley Legends Half Marathon held this Saturday 24^th April, 2010 in Carlingford, Co. Louth. Conditions were near perfect, after the recent dry spell and slight southerly wind to cool the participants on their way. It was a home victory for the local Setanta triathlete Bryan McCrystal closely followed, 19 seconds later by David Carrie from Dunleer. In the ladies race there was no catching Karen Alexander from Cookestown with Gillian Kilroy in second position.

Runners  from 23 counties to start

It looks like it could be an All Ireland affair, with participants from 23 counties now represented on the start line of
the inaugural Cooley Legends Half Marathon run, and are now ready to tackle the 21.1 kilometres, with just over 700 metres of altitude from Jenkinstown to Carlingford, later this month.  Therefore, the 1st edition of this legendary route, The Táin Trail,  across the Cooley Mountains, which will be staged for the first time under the umbrella of  title sponsorship holder Columbia, is nearly upon us. With just 17 days to go, the final briefing will be posted the week of 19th Apr.
First senior man and woman will receive especially commissioned wood sculptured trophies and Columbia Product. Other prizes:- First three senior men and woman. Also first three masters men and woman (over 40 and 50)

On trial today was Columbia’s new lightweight Ravenous trail running shoe – which comes in men’s and women’s styles – allows for excellent hybrid performances on paved roads as well as tracks and offers excellent downhill breaking and uphill grip.

Cooley Legends Run ran today Tuesday 2nd March, 2010.
Conditions were clear, sunny with a slight wind blowing,
damp under foot, and done at a steady pace.

With just over two months to the start of the inaugural Cooley Legends Half Marathon, entries are  steadily coming in, with twelve counties now represented in the entry list, and from as far a field as Boulder, Colorado.
The planning and logistics involved are well in order with seven buses on standby, to get everyone to the start line on time. The finish line will be at ‘Dan’s Cafe’ into the pedestrian area in the village center.
The off road half marathon offers participants a unique experience in the sport of long distance running, in the dramatic setting of the Cooley mountains rugged landscape, as the route meanders along the Táin Trail, past bogs, hills, lakes, Slieve Foy, and finally over Goylin Pass, for the welcome descent to the finish in Carlingford.
The event will hopefully send people away with such a taste of Carlingford and all its highlights.

Escape to the beauty of the Cooley Mountains and absorb the most        magnificent views on the North East Coast of Ireland stretching out  along the Cooley Peninsula.
The famous Tain Way – a national way marked walking route – covers  a 40km circuit of the Cooley Mountains on forest tracks, mountain  paths and country roads.
The half-marathon route includes a selection of tracks, paths and  roads along The Táin Way.
The beautiful village of Carlingford lays to the north of the range  overlooking Carlingford Lough, and is the backdrop for the finish.
Here is the landscape of the legend of Cuchulainn and Queen Meabh and the Brown Bull of Cooley.
